I meet a large number of executives who consider themselves as team players and believe they have the respect of their subordinates. With some individuals it is can be difficult to understand why they hold these beliefs when it is apparent there is significant conflict within their organisations coupled with high staff turnover rates and high staff absenteeism. Private discussions with members of staff can give the impression the boss is a monster who manipulates the staff in a cold and cynical manner.

Spend a little money on your clothes and briefcase or portfolio-type bag to create a good impression. People may deny it but they will always think: expensive clothes, lots of money, doing well, good designer. Dress smart, but not trendy – no one likes trendy designers.

As a boy of seven with few interests I spent many days alone looking out the window. I saw boys my age running and jumping but I didn’t want to join them. I never cared for other children and did my best to stay away from them. The only time I got close to kids my age was at school which I hated.
